Rabiatul Adawiyah dilahirkan kira-kira pada tahun 713-717 M atau bersamaan dengan 95-99 Hijrah dan bertempat di sebuah kota di Irak iaitu kota Basrah. Beliau merupakan anak yang ke-4 dari 4 bersaudara oleh sebab itu beliau dinamakan Rabiah yang maksudnya adalah "yang ke-4". Beliau dilahikan dari sebuah keluarga yang sangat miskin.
